Our team consists of experienced conservationists, fundraisers, communicators, and administrators who collaborate closely with our counterparts in South Africa. Together, we ensure that your support directly benefits the rhinos and contributes to their long-term survival.
Eric Caldwell is a recent graduate from Pepperdine University, holding a B.A. in Political Science. Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Public Policy and Administration at California Lutheran, with a focus on non-profit work and grant writing. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Eric has lived in various cities across California and now resides in Ventura County. He feels privileged to be part of a passionate team at Care for Wild, working towards making a difference in rhino conservation and local communities in South Africa.
Jim Roth brings a solid background in engineering, business development, sales, and marketing. He excels in developing new products into profitable lines and has experience in growing small, innovative companies. With expertise in aerospace, industrial machinery, and firefighting equipment, Jim is focused on long-term growth, strategic planning, and cost controls. As a volunteer leader for Care for Wild in North America, he oversees grant funding, donor relations, security, and operations to support the sanctuary's needs in South Africa.
Staci Roth brings a wealth of experience as a dedicated kindergarten teacher with over 30 years of service. Her true passion lies in educating children about the significance of animals and their vital role within the ecosystem. After witnessing the incredible efforts of Petronel and the sanctuary staff in rescuing baby rhinos, Staci became wholeheartedly committed to Care for Wild. As the Secretary of Care for Wild in the US, she plays a vital role in overseeing projects and ensuring effective management and support.
Petronel Nieuwoudt, the Founder and CEO of Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary, has dedicated her life to wildlife conservation. After her studies, Petronel joined the South African Police Service's Endangered Species Protection Unit, where she rose to the rank of Captain. She later established The Game Capture School, providing training in wildlife capture and management. Passionate about wildlife rehabilitation, she founded Sondela Wildlife Centre and Tamboti Wildlife Centre. In 2011, Petronel founded Care for Wild Africa, a rehabilitation centre for indigenous wildlife. As the rhino poaching crisis developed, Care for Wild evolved into the world’s largest specialised orphaned, rhino sanctuary. Petronel's community-focused and sustainable vision has brought opportunities to the local community, addressing socio-economic challenges. Petronel's mission protects rhinos and people alike, ensuring a better future for generations to come.
Chris de Bruno Austin is a globally recognized forest and wildfire specialist, serving as the MD of WoF International/Kishugu Holdings Limited and CEO of the Kishugu Group of Companies. He led the successful implementation of the South African Government's Working on Fire Programme, renowned for rural job creation. Chris has contributed to international projects, including climate change initiatives, forestry skill development for small-scale farmers, and vegetation management in National Parks. With extensive expertise, he has authored technical papers and fire management plans for notable sites like Ngorongoro, Serengeti, and the Okavango Delta. Chris has played a crucial role in advancing fire management research, including the SavFIRE project in Kruger National Park.
